This email notification arrived in our mailbox today, and its information about hostmonster email server upgrade. From the content, we learn that the email server upgrade will not cause inability of service, and is totally prevented with counter measures. This is great! We love to get informed earlier like this one, thanks to hostmonster customer care after all. Hostmonster hosting is now available at $3.95/mo, via this hostmonster discount link only!

“In continued effort to provide the best possible hosting experience, we will soon be
performing an upgrade on our outbound mail system. This update is scheduled to happen
in one week, and will affect all e-mail accounts on your server. To most users, the
only noticeable change will be more reliable e-mail delivery. To very few customers,
this change may cause a temporary inability to send messages. The good news is that
this temporary inability is entirely preventable!

For over a year, we have encouraged customers who use an e-mail client such as Outlook
or Apple’s Mail to use authentication when connecting to us via SMTP to send a message.
This helps ensure reliable e-mail delivery for all customers who are on a server.
Starting one week from today, this will be required for all outbound mail communication.
For customers who have not yet enabled this option in their e-mail clients, or are unsure
whether they are using outbound e-mail authentication, we have developed an entire
collection of video tutorials which demonstrate how to do this. Please visit the
following link for detailed steps relating to your favorite e-mail program.“

Ever wakeup in the morning, and found out your email account is flooded with junk mail again and again? The right solution to solve email spamming will be using the right tool. At hostmonster, your email account created, will have the spam protection features: spam assissin and boxtrapper.

Spam Assassin : “is an automated mail filter that uses a wide range of heuristic algorithms on mail headers and message body text to identify “SPAM” (unsolicited email). Once identified, the mail is tagged as SPAM for later filtering using the user’s desktop mail client. All spam mail goes to spam box, and you still can check those mail if you like, or delete it with single click of a button.“

 Boxtrapper : “protects your inbox from spam by forcing all people not on your white list to reply to a verifcation email before they can send mail to you. You can create your white list and add your contacts to this list. Also create a black list and add all spammer email to this address.”

These are the two most effective spam protection system available today, and its available free of charge at your hostmonster shared hosting with unlimited email accounts.

From cpanel, you can login to the webmail through these: cpanel > webmail > choose horde or squirrelmail webmail. I most prefer horde cause the user interface is much better. Below are the screenshot of the horde and squirrelmail respectively:

But showing unreadable symbols and sign, then its caused by charset problem at the hosting php.ini file. You can fix the problem by editing the php.ini file.

What you will need to do is, FTP login to your server and locate the php.ini file. Edit the php.ini using notepad or any text editor… and add in these lines.

[mbstring]
mbstring.language = Neutral
mbstring.internal_encoding = UTF-8
mbstring.http_input = UTF-8
mbstring.http_output = UTF-8
mbstring.encoding_translation = On
mbstring.detect_order = auto
mbstring.substitute_character = long;
mbstring.func_overload = 1

By this, your hostmonster php email will now support unicode characters. Basically this method will fix most of the charset problem. However, if this don’t solve it, do contact hostmonster support for futher assistant. Remember to inform them that editing the php.ini dont work.

I guess, it will be probably something between 255 daily email limit, same as godaddy email limit. Visit hostmonster.

A quick search at google search engine, bring me to hostmonster forums, and i read something very interesting. A post about “Host monster email limit”, and read on, found out that the defauly hourly limit is 50 emails, which is bit low. Total of 1200 daily email sending limit.

Very interesting part is, you could email hostmonster, and request for a free upgrade to this limit…. to 500 per hour. which gives you 12,000 daily SMTP email sending limits
