Enabling FastCGI in your cpanel will improve your website loading speed. Not many hosting provider are offering this features. Where to find one, and what is the pros and cons to it.
FastCGI was come to my attention since two months ago, when my web hosting company is offering this fastcgi features in its cpanel control panel. And I am allow to enabled or disabled it easily. Furthermore, the fastcgi had been upgraded again and with much more cache control options. All these are designed to boost your websites proformance.
If your shared hosting websites is getting 10,000-300,000 pageview each days, its time to consider enabling the fastcgi. Or you are running script that require fastcgi instead of cgi, eg. RoR. You will need to enable fastcgi. It utilized the server cache to store the php executable, and storing them them at memory even after your page is finish loaded. When second visitor request the same page, the cache is called and page is show to user. The server will not need to reprocess all php executable and regenerate the page, it will call the page from cache system. The idea of fastcgi is quit simple, buffering the page and act like a proxy server.
There is disadvantage of the use of cache. As the page content is not regenerated, the old content will be show to user. If your website is running dynamic content, fastcgi might not suitable for you. It work the best for static content, that is not changing from time to time.
Second issue is that not all script is supported in fastcgi. For example, I faced some error 500 (server side error) when enable fastcgi for my wordpress blog. You have to try fastcgi on your script. If it doesn’t work, you have to disabled it.

On early of month, Hostmonster support sent out email acknowledging user that their cpanel control panel will be upgraded on 8th August 2007. And today i login to my hostmonster account, and found out the new cpanel is already there. Very very nice and impressive look and feel.Apple green background, couple with good combination of graphics make the control panel look more attractive and comfortable with.
The previous hostmonster cpanel evolution x is look bad, if compare to this new cpanel theme. The information or account information is much easier accessible. All require stat is display on the left column. And right column are all the account management tools. I still playing with the new interface, and at this time, i found out its very easy to navigate around. Also notice that this cpanel version 11 is much faster, when compare to the old cpanel evolution x version.
Glad they upgraded to the new cpanel, and much happy as i can share this with you are well

Hostmonster hosting is now supporting fastcgi. Its latest hostmonster upgrade, and from cpanel evolution control panel, you can choose to enable or disable this new fastcgi feature. The fastcgi.. simple mean ‘fast cgi’, where it optimised the use of cache to enable faster php page loading time. The page is fetch to cache, and the following page hit can be server much faster. Improved version of the common cgi.
Login to hostmonster cpanel, and you will find the fastcgi under the ’site menu’. Click on it will go to following page:
You can enable or disable fastcgi anytime. And its recommended for php script like joomla or RoR (ruby on rails). Which require more php script processing. For other php script, its adviced to double check that the script is supporting fastcgi. And after enable the fastcgi, double check that your website is running normally as well.

Hostmonster hosting control panel is ‘Cpanel XP Evolution’. Its a very easy and simple to use control panel. I took less than 5 minutes to get familiar with the controls, icons, and menu navigation. I found out that they support multiple language in the control panel. And i can switch to other prefered languague throught the drop down menu.

I found out that, at the control panel, the item/menu is grouped and well organised. I no need to go through one by one to look for what I want.
