This Hostmonster review blog had been running for more than 30 days. And was setup on 14th March 2007. By the time of setup, I still very new to this host, and almost know nothing about it. If your Hostmonster email can not send out unicode character like: chinese, arabic, or japanese characters, or any other special characters. But showing unreadable symbols and sign, then its caused by charset problem at the hosting php.ini file. You can fix the problem by editing the php.ini file.

What you will need to do is, FTP login to your server and locate the php.ini file. Edit the php.ini using notepad or any text editor… and add in these lines.

[mbstring]
mbstring.language = Neutral
mbstring.internal_encoding = UTF-8
mbstring.http_input = UTF-8
mbstring.http_output = UTF-8
mbstring.encoding_translation = On
mbstring.detect_order = auto
mbstring.substitute_character = long;
mbstring.func_overload = 1

By this, your hostmonster php email will now support unicode characters. Basically this method will fix most of the charset problem. However, if this don’t solve it, do contact hostmonster support for futher assistant. Remember to inform them that editing the php.ini dont work.

1. Make you you already have a Hostmonster.com hosting plan
2. Download the free oscommerce shopping cart script.
3. Unzip the oscommerce script and upload to hostmonster server.
4. Check the setting of php.ini, make sure it is “register_globals = on”
5. In cpanel, create new mysql database and create database user.
6. To start the oscommerce installation, browse to the location of the folder, eg: www.yourdomain.com/store, and the installer will guide you through.

My personal opinion about host monster phone supports

At Hostmonster hosting, Setup a blogging site on host monste hosting is not hard. Indeed, i always prefer using wordpress script, as this is the best blogging script that i had come across. Setup is fast simple and only take me less than 5 minutes. Belief it, when i first start setup blog website, it took me 15 minutes. Guess I am getting better and better. I need to thanks for the good hostmonster support team that give me a good guidline to start with this hosting as well.

Go to wordpress.org, download the latest blog script. Here is downloaded the version 2.1. Quickly I unzip it and upload to host monster. How? FTP login to hostmonster, using the right username and password. FTP upload all files.

Go to Hostmonster. Then i login to cpanel, go to advanced menu> mysql database section. And create a new mysql database by selecting “Add Database”. Once the mysql database created, add new user to the database. And finally the host monster database is setup, and can be access from phpmyadmin, a web tool that allow me to manage the database through web browser.

“NOTE - To remotely access your databases, you must contact hostmonster support to allow the connection through our firewall as well. Please contact hostmonster with the IP numbers you would like to be able to connect from.”… this only necessary if you going to connect to database from your computer. Which is not necessary if you just want to setup blog site for now

Hostmonster hosting control panel is ‘Cpanel XP Evolution’. Its a very easy and simple to use control panel. I took less than 5 minutes to get familiar with the controls, icons, and menu navigation. I found out that they support multiple language in the control panel. And i can switch to other prefered languague throught the drop down menu.

I found out that, at the control panel, the item/menu is grouped and well organised. I no need to go through one by one to look for what I want. A glance through the group title, and i know what its about. Looking the subitem is faster and easy to access. I think this is a good features that is not available at other cpanel host.
